Fix Messy QuickBooks Books

Fix Messy QuickBooks Books Lines still in review

A suggestion from the software is not a match. Until each of those lines has a payee a person can say, that month is not finished.

A bank feed with one line still unmarked, here because that line is the deposit the file cannot name.

What the review list actually is

The bank sends lines. The software tries to guess the payee and the category. That guess sits in a list until a person accepts it, matches it to something already recorded, or sets it aside on purpose.

Accepting a guess because the month is late is how a file gets messy while looking busy. We would rather leave one line on the list than post it to the wrong account and discover it in April.

A bank rule can match a payee the way a saved filter matches a description. The gate opens when the rule is the right one. A person still watches the gate, because a rule that fires on the wrong line keeps the month open.

How we walk the list with you

Have the bank statement on the screen, and tell us the day you believe the month should have stopped. If nobody ever picked that day, the call begins by picking it. We do not open the chart until that day exists.

A transfer between your own accounts is booked so both sides can see it, and it is not recorded as a sale. We do not create a transfer type that is painful to undo later. A deposit into the receiving account, pointed at the account the money left, is enough.

Lines you meant to ignore stay ignored on purpose. They are not deleted in a way that makes them reappear as new on the next import. The list of what was set aside is part of the month.

You can read what a parking balance means next, or how an old check gets an age.

What this page will not claim

This page will not quote a rate or a sample balance. The loose line in the story is a composite. It is not a client file.

A long list does not get a same-day promise. The useful move is a time on the calendar, or a note that includes the day the statement ends.

Write the day the bank statement ends, if you still remember it. If the day is gone, say the review list is still crowded.
